At least one in five of the world’s plant species are at risk of extinction and a further ten percent will soon become threatened unless action is taken. More than a third of the world’s 280 freshwater turtle species are threatened with extinction, according to a new analysis by Conservation International (CI). A rare subspecies of giraffe has become the latest charismatic mammal to be added to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
